Herd Visit: Clear Water Simmentals

Last week, Doug, Drew, and Holli travelled to Milan, Indiana to visit Jeff and Leah Meinders of Clear Water Simmentals. They consign to sales such as the Family Traditions Sale in February and April, the Land of Lincoln Sale in November, and select sales such as expos and the NAILE. You can learn more about their operation at www.clearwatersimmentals.com

Welcome to Clear Water Simmentals!

We met Leah, along with their herdsman Jamie and nephew Maverick at The Reservation for lunch. If you go up to Milan for a visit you have to check out the nearby winery. We usually go when we can go to a Friday night seafood buffet with Jeff and Leah, but sadly, couldn’t this trip. Instead we got a quick bite at The Reservation – complete with teepee. Great little local place!

The Reservation

After lunch we checked out the cattle that were in the show barn. Maverick, Leah’s nephew will be traveling to the junior nationals in Lima in a few weeks. Those heifers are in great shape for summer, while still keeping that competitive look. We wish him the best of luck at the Jr Nationals!

Like many of you, they are in the process of weaning calves and seeing what they are looking to consign in future sales. Calves are in the barn being haltered broke, and a new group were headed that way in the following weeks. Kittens are also very plentiful at Clear Water Simmentals. I am sure Leah would gladly send you home with one.

After checking out the show barn and Leah’s nice garden, we headed out on the cart to check out a few pastures. It was a nice, sunny day so it was nice to get out in the fields and check out some great Simmental genetics. Jeff and Leah have gathered some of the top genetics in the Simmental breed within their herd and are doing a great job. Of course, I can’t give away what we saw! After checking out donors and calves we headed out to take a look at the bred heifers that Leah will be consigning at the Land of Lincoln sale. They always bring a nice set of breds to that sale. Be on the look out for photos this coming fall.

Looking at calves

What would a farm visit be without dropping off some semen to use for breeding and flushing in the near future? Everyone is trying to find something new, fresh, and Dream On free to breed their females to.

We had a great visit at Clear Water Simmentals. Jeff and Leah are great friends who do an outstanding job breeding Simmental cattle. They would love for you to stop by anytime to look at their calves, and would love to visit with you about their cattle in any upcoming sale.
